The University of Kentucky is gearing up to host the highly-anticipated College Business Management Institute (CBMI) from July 24th to 28th, 2022, marking a remarkable 69 years since its inception. Co-sponsored by the Southern Association of College and University Business Officers (SACUBO), CBMI holds a distinguished legacy and has called the University of Kentucky its home since the very beginning.
CBMI stands as a beacon of knowledge and opportunity for college and university administrators alike. It offers an intensive course of study in business and fiscal management, serving as a unique platform for attendees to gain valuable insights and earn coveted continuing professional credits (CPE). The institute’s curriculum is expertly crafted and features courses conducted by distinguished faculty members and practicing leaders in the field. These courses delve deep into the intricacies of higher education business administration, providing attendees with a comprehensive understanding of the latest trends, issues, and best practices in the field.
Drew Ard, CBMI director and senior event management specialist in the Office of University Events, expressed his excitement about this year’s event. He stated, “We are thrilled to once again partner with SACUBO and host CBMI in the vibrant city of Lexington. This year holds special significance as it marks the first in-person CBMI conference since 2019, following a virtual hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With great anticipation, we aim to attract over 600 college business officers to our campus, offering them a robust curriculum that focuses on critical areas such as budget processing, auxiliary services, accreditation, alternate revenue sources, and treasury management, among other pertinent topics.”
One of the most remarkable aspects of CBMI is its inclusivity. There are no prerequisites for enrollment, making it accessible to a broad range of professionals in the field of higher education. The courses offered cater to diverse audiences, ranging from entry-level to advanced, ensuring that attendees at all stages of their careers can benefit from the program. Notably, participants have the opportunity to earn up to 28 hours of CPE each year for three years, ultimately receiving a prestigious certificate of completion, which can significantly boost their professional credentials.
For those attending CBMI from outside the central Kentucky area, the experience goes beyond the classroom. Optional tours of local attractions, including visits to a horse farm, the renowned Buffalo Trace Distillery, and the picturesque University of Kentucky campus, provide a well-rounded and immersive experience that showcases the vibrant culture and heritage of the region.
Andrew Smith, assistant vice president for Auxiliary Services, underscored the significance of hosting CBMI, stating, “SACUBO is the leading association for excellence in financial and administrative services in higher education. Bringing CBMI to our campus offers a tremendous opportunity for professional development, knowledge exchange, and networking with our colleagues at peer institutions. It is an investment in the growth and success of professionals in our field.”
Registration for CBMI is now open, and there’s an additional incentive for those interested in the treasury management track. A limited number of scholarships are available on a first-come, first-served basis for participants who register for this track. These scholarships not only make the program more accessible but also reflect the commitment of CBMI and the University of Kentucky to support the professional development of individuals in higher education administration.
In essence, CBMI at the University of Kentucky is more than just an event; it’s a premier platform for knowledge-sharing, professional growth, and networking in the realm of higher education business management. As CBMI enters its 69th year, it continues to uphold its tradition of excellence in fostering leadership and expertise in this critical field.
With a rich history and a commitment to delivering top-notch education, CBMI stands as a testament to the University of Kentucky’s dedication to advancing the field of higher education administration. As attendees gather for this annual event, they become part of a longstanding tradition of excellence and innovation, ensuring a brighter future for higher education business management.
